Two wheels have a reasonable number of weights (3 and 4 respectively) placed on the inside edge of the wheel where you can’t see them . The other two look like this:
It’s been 9 years since I have balanced a tire but I seem to recall my shop teacher telling us that if you need to do this you are doing something wrong. Time to get them rebalanced by one of my shop owning friends.

Yeah....that's too many weights.

Tire Rack ( based on the red Driver’s Side sticker )? That’s unfortunate. I had good luck with them the last time I ordered a winter wheel and tire set.

For a company whose core business is wheels and tires you would think Tirerack would know how to assemble them properly.

Yup. First time I have ordered a mounted set from them and it seems like 2 of them were balanced by someone with no idea what they are doing.

When you pay your employees the minimum amount, they put out a minimum result.
I’m guessing what should have been done is remounting the tire in a different position, but that would have taken way to much time so the guy said “maybe more weights will help?”

Time to apply the off road racing trick of active balancing by filling the tires with lead shot.

That’s slightly discouraging. Hopefully its isolated, or yours were balanced at 4:45 pm on a Friday...

I don’t know about the road force balancing machines tirerack claims to use but when a traditional balancing machine tells you to put more than a couple oz on a wheel it means the wheel is off center on the machine.
I picked them up myself because driving the hour to the distribution center saved me $80 and the guy who brought the wheels out to the loading dock seemed rather unexcited to be there.

I ordered them on Saturday and got the email saying they were ready for pickup at 5pm on Monday so it’s not a end of day on Friday thing.

I’ve always been curious as to what the downsides of this are. Like not janky lead shot but I’ve heard of beads being used. Seems to me like the best option.

Monday morning hangover then ...?
I had the last set delivered to my parents’ house - I felt slightly bad for the UPS driver...

Never tried it myself but from what I understand it can work pretty well once you are up and moving but can be a bit rough when you first start moving. A fluid dampner for an engine works in the same basic way.

My experience has always been great and I've done it 3 times. Definitely got the new guy. Might be worth dropping them a message.

I’ ve been bu ying tires and mounted tires on wheels from tirerack for nearly 20 and have never had a wierd ballance on sets I ordered from them. As Nick says, it might be worth dropping them a message, they will probably at least offer to cover the cost of a reballance for you.

That’s unfortunate. That looks like the new/lazy guy didn’t want to dismount them and rotate 180.
